5 out of 5 stars Walton's disciple in paradise   December 7, 2006

Fred J. Taylor's (1961) book must rank alongside the founding father of angling writers, Izaak Walton. Like Walton he takes us, in each chapter, to one of his favourite haunts in search of a different species of fish.

But most of all, Fred Taylor includes us in the enthusiasm and excitement he has for fishing at these very special places.

He shares with us his unlikely methods and tactics which, as a boy, I couldn't wait to emulate. Though never with the same success as Fred and his long standing fishing companions Peter Stone and Richard Walker, they show an unfailing talent for innovation which seems to be the hallmark of all great anglers.

This book is a gourmet guide to angling, despite the fact that most of the fish he catches are quite inedible.

In the U.S. this ordinary English country bloke seems to have inadvertantly found an affiliation with one of your most accomplished and enduring performing artists - James Taylor. In England, he has always been Fred J. - and his middle name has always remained a mystery
